Snow Day Activities: Snow Cream!

Writer: Veronica DeStefanoVeronica DeStefano

It’s been a winter miracle over here in NC so far – it’s snowed 3 times, but this most recent one has been the best. My Colorado kids are in snow heaven and one of their favorite snow day activities is to make snow cream! It’s a quick and fun recipe and the kids look forward to it every time it snows – especially after years of no snow around here!

For snow cream you will need

  • A GIANT bowl of *clean* snow (around 8 cups)

  • 1 cup of milk (any kind – we sometimes use chocolate milk too!)

  • 1/3 cup of sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

  • Pinch of salt

Baking ingredients on a marble counter: mixing bowl with snow, milk, sugar, bowls of marshmallows, chocolate chips, salt, vanilla extract.

And toppings!

This year we have gone fully dye free so some of our favorite ice cream toppings are

  • Chocolate chips

  • Marshmallows (some have blue dye in it so check the labels)

  • Unreal M&Ms

  • Dye Free Sprinkles (Watkins brand and Walmart Brand have good ones!)

  • Chocolate Syrup (some have dyes as well, so check your label)

Mix all the ingredients in the bowl, scoop and to a bowl and top off with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

These southern kids are living their best winter wonderland lives this week and snow cream is the perfect treat to celebrate!
